01 / THE DOCUMENTARY

A route on a map.
A life on the ground.

A collection of voices from people standing up for their land and homes.

Informed on Alto brings the conversation back to the people living in the places a major infrastructure project could change. Through community stories, the series explores the connections between land, home, livelihood, and belonging.

Our focus is the human experience: the questions people are asking, the uncertainty they are facing, and the stories they want heard.

THE CONVERSATION / LAND & COMMUNITY

The concerns
of the people.

These places are home.

This documentary gathers concerns from rural Eastern Ontario about the lasting effects a major rail project could have on communities, the environment, and local history.

  • Land, water, and wildlife. Questions about wetlands, forests, wildlife corridors, protected habitats, and natural spaces.
  • Homes and everyday life. Concerns about property impacts, noise, safety, and the disruption of construction.
  • History and belonging. Connections to Indigenous history, historic settlements, and culturally significant places.
  • Community voices. Questions about consultation and how residents can participate in decisions affecting their future.
  • Local livelihoods. The relationships between land, farming, tourism, recreation, and rural identity.

For many people, the conversation reaches beyond transportation. It asks how change can account for the communities and landscapes already here.

BEHIND THE INTERVIEWS

The questions
we're asking.

Questions used throughout our interviews with community members, public officials, businesses, organizations, and project representatives.

04 / ADD YOUR VOICE

Give us
your voice.

If your home, land, farm, or community is part of this conversation, we'd love to hear from you. We're also welcoming inquiries from people with relevant history, research, or perspectives to share.

Tell us a little about your connection to Alto and the best way to reach you. An initial inquiry does not commit you to appearing in the documentary.
